Amazon leaks new e-book reader with 6.8-inch display itself
Amazon accidentally introduced a new generation of its e-book reader Kindle Paperwhite on its Canadian website. It probably comes with a 6.8-inch display.
Normally, new devices from the tech area are leaked by people who specialize in it, who have their information, for example, from employees in the manufacturers’ factories. Sometimes they are accidentally published sales pages of online shops, on which pictures, prices and technical details of devices that have not yet been presented can be seen for a short time. In some cases, however, the providers themselves manage to leak new hardware before the actual presentation – like Amazon now.
The e-commerce group has shown a new Kindle Paperwhite generation on its Canadian platform – probably not on purpose. This is indicated by the fact that the corresponding pages with Kindle Paperwhite 5 and Kindle Paperwhite 5 Signature Edition have since been deleted. A comparison table that shows the technical details of the new e-book reader, which will apparently soon be released, has found its way onto the Internet. The new digital reading devices were discovered by Reddit users and the industry portal Good e-reader.
Accordingly, the most visible and noticeable new feature of the new Paperwhite devices is the larger screen. Both Paperwhite 5 models come with a 6.8-inch display (300 dpi). The current Kindle Paperwhite 4 has a 6 inch display. Only the high-end e-book reader is bigger at the moment Kindle Oasis, which has a seven-inch display. Another innovation: Instead of the previous four, the new Paperwhite models come with 17 LEDs for display lighting.
The signature edition of the upcoming Kindle Paperwhite 5 brings 32 gigabytes of storage space instead of eight gigabytes like the basic version. In addition, the lighting of the more expensive model automatically adapts to the prevailing lighting conditions. And the Kindle Paperwhite 5 Signature Edition is said to support wireless charging. However, this time there does not seem to be a version with a cellular connection.
According to the information on the Canadian Amazon site, the Kindle Paperwhite 5 will cost 149 Canadian dollars. The Signature Edition costs 209.99 Canadian dollars. That would be the equivalent of 99 euros or just under 140 euros. It is questionable, however, whether these prices will continue to exist when the market is launched in Germany. The current Kindle Paperwhite came on the market in November 2018 in the cheapest version for 120 euros.
