Allegedly 1 million reservations, production only in 2022
The Tesla Cybertruck has been pre-ordered more than a million times since November 2019. In any case, this number can be found in an online reservation tracker.
With over 1,084,200 pre-orders, the Tesla Cybertruck can already be called a bestseller, although not a single copy has been produced yet. A Online cybertruck reservation tracker on Google Sheets, which was created around the time of the November 2019 event, shows that the dual-motor variant, i.e. all-wheel drive, is the most popular variant of the upcoming electric pickup.

It will have a range of over 480 kilometers, an acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers in less than 4.5 seconds, a trailer load of over 4,500 kilograms and cost 49,990 US dollars. After all, 48 percent of the reservation holders opted for this cybertruck variant, while 44.5 percent chose the configuration with three engines.
Only 7.5 percent want to buy the version with just one engine. This may also have something to do with the fact that Tesla didn’t want to bring them onto the market until a year after the start of production of the other models.
A real surge in pre-orders is said to have set in after Ford announced its fully electric F-150 Lightning, also a pickup. The specifications of the Ford look significantly worse than those of the Cybertruck and the vehicle is more expensive.
The other direct competitor would be Rivian with its R1T. It should find its way to the first buyers this year. It is quite possible that those interested in Cybertruck will first want to see whether those first buyers will be satisfied with the vehicle.
As analyst Gary Black claims to have learned from a Tesla salesman from Chicago, the manufacturer has been flooded with Cybertruck orders since the Ford F-150 was presented. Orders for all models went through the roof, says Black.
Retweeting. I spoke with my $ TSLA salesperson in Chicago. TSLA got flooded with inquiries following Ford F150 EV event last week. Orders for all models are through the roof. Last week’s $ 500 price hike on M3 and MY models are to adjust supply / demand imbalances into qtr-end.

Musk expects production from 2022
The production of the Cybertruck was originally planned for the end of 2021. Tesla boss Elon Musk apparently assumes that series production will not start in the Gigafactory Texas until next year. Under fortunate circumstances, it may be possible that a handful of deliveries could still take place in 2021, but there will be no volume production before 2022.
So far, Musk seems to be able to rely on his fans. Of course, it remains to be seen how many of the more than one million pre-orders will ultimately actually place a binding order. The number is still without essential substance.
