AirPods Pro 2: the new charging case includes new features
Images of the new charging case for the AirPods Pro 2 have appeared, and this a few days before the Apple keynote. The watches suggest that there will be at least three new features: four speaker holes, a microphone and an opening for attaching a lanyard.
The AirPods Pro 2 charging case is expected to get Apple’s Find My support, allowing users to track the case’s location in the Find My app if it’s lost or stolen, even when the earbuds aren’t placed in it. Previous rumors had it that the case would be able to emit sound if lost, which would explain the addition of speaker holes.
The surprising aspect is the microphone. It may be used for Apple’s Accessibility feature called “Live Listening” which can help a person hear a conversation in a noisy place or across the room . The mic could pick up the sound and send it to the AirPods Pro the person is wearing, making the sound easier to hear.
Last point, the opening would allow to put a cord or something else in order to transport the charging case to a key ring without the need for an additional accessory.
The AirPods Pro 2, whose charging case would retain the Lightning port and not switch to USB-C, will normally be announced during this semester. It remains to be seen when exactly. Will Apple take advantage of its September 7 keynote to unveil its new headphones?
