Adoption of iOS 14 lingers a bit

The latest operating system for iPhone, Apple iOS 14, is almost ready with adoption, the latest figures show.

With the introduction of a new version of the iOS operating system, there are often some teething problems. iOS 14, for example, had a problem with battery performance. Still, the latest iPhone OS was adopted quite quickly. Certainly if you compare iOS 14 with the adoption of iOS 11. Nevertheless, it seems to be a bit finished with the switch to iOS 14.

Apple iOS 14 adoption

Adoption figures from Apple itself show that 86% of all iPhones from the past four years have switched to iOS 14 (via MacRumors). The operating system was released in September of 2020. In those five months, about 12% still stuck on iOS 13. Only 2% of all users would very much not like to upgrade and use an even older version.

With the latest figures, we can conclude that everyone who wanted the update has also downloaded it. Last December, more than 2.5 months ago, 81% had already switched. About 5% of all users with an iPhone not older than 4 years have recently switched.

The adoption of iPadOS 14 is ebbing a little longer than that of iOS 14. Currently, 84% of all iPads from the past 4 years run on the latest OS. That was 75% last December. No less than 16% of all iPads still run on a tech-savvy version of iPadOS (13 or older). In short, iPad users are much less likely to switch to a new version of the operating system than iPhone owners.
