ADAC and Renault react after the Zoe crash test disaster
Renault probably did not expect this result. Often referred to as the “most popular electric car in Europe”, the Zoe achieved 0 out of 5 stars in the NCAP crash test. Only two other cars have ever received such a bad result. Another Renault electric car also only performed marginally better. Renault and ADAC are now reacting.
Two electric cars from Renault do poorly
Update from December 13th, 2021:The ADAC reacted with concern to the result of the NCAP crash test of the Renault Zoe and the Cooperation with the manufacturer ended for the time being(Source: Automobile week). At the ADAC, members could lease the Zoe at a special rate and drive an e-car cheaply. On the ADAC website, the Zoe is now listed as “Coming back soon” (look at ADAC).
Renault is also reacting to the poor performance of the best-selling electric car and now wants to Install the emergency brake assistant in every Zoe. This was missing in the tested basic model. That could ensure that the Zoe could get a few stars in the NCAP crash test.
Original article:
The NCAP crash test is always a good indicator of how safe a vehicle is. Renault used to achieve five stars with its cars in these tests. The requirements are now higher and the Renault Zoe is out of date in terms of safety. The e-car that I also wanted to buy achieved 0 out of 5 possible stars in the crash test.
When it comes to protecting adult inmates, the Zoe only achieved 43 percent. Children are protected to 52 percent. For unprotected road users, the value is only 41 percent. The fact that the e-car has hardly any active assistants is achieved by just 14 percent with safety support from certain technologies. Even an offset frontal collision is rated poorly by the experts. In the event of a side impact on a pile, then complete failure:The driver’s head is thrown against the stake.
For comparison: when the Zoe was launched in 2013, it still achieved 5 stars in the NCAP crash test. Renault pioneered safety in many areas. Because the Zoe Not only are there a lack of passive safety mechanisms, but also active safety systems to avoid accidentsthat have long been standard in many other vehicles in this price range (source: Euro NCAP).

DaciaSpring achieved a star
The Renault subsidiary Dacia does a little better with the Spring. Even so, only one out of five stars for a brand new car is really disappointing. Here too, the occupant protection is inadequate, so life-threatening injuries occur in an accident be able. Saving was probably in the wrong place here. Accordingly, it is “cynical to offer the consumer an affordable green car when it comes to the price of a higher risk of injury in an accident” – says Michiel van Ratingen. at Euro NCAPyou can read how the crash tests are carried out.
