A modular telephone in 2021? You can fix Fairphone 4 yourself

The Dutch smartphone company Fairphone has introduced a new phone that boasts several features. You can repair it yourself, you will receive a five-year warranty on it and it is made of recycled or, in the case of cobalt and lithium, ethically obtained materials.

Let’s talk about the phone first. The front covers 6.3 ″ LCD panel with Full HD + resolution and Gorilla Glass 5. It is disturbed by a teardrop-shaped cut-out, where there is a 25MPx selfie camera and there is also a fingerprint reader on the side in the power button. On the back we find a module of two cameras, while the main one has a resolution 48MPx and it does not lack OIS and the same resolution was given to the ultra-wide sensor.

Under the hood is a decent chipset Snapdragon 750G in combination with 6/8 GB RAM and 128 / 256GB storagewhich can be further expanded with a microSD card. It will also please IP54 and MIL810G certifications. Stamina took charge 3 905mAh battery with support for 20W charging.

The system is then pure Android 11, with the company promising at least two major updates and support until 2025. The phone will come without an adapter and even without a cable. I will pay for the basic modele 579 EUR, which is about 14,500 crowns. So what are the repair options at all? For example, a new battery will cost you 29.95 EUR (750 CZK), a rear camera 79.95 EUR (2,000 CZK) and a selfie camera 29.95 EUR (750 CZK).
