Telegram will start displaying advertising in the chat app. However, the messaging service won’t just harass everyone with an overwhelming amount of ads. Telegram will show advertisements in the form of sponsored messages. These are text messages with a maximum of 160 characters, which may not contain external links. These text messages are based on the subject of the group; it is emphasized that no data is collected or analyzed for the ads.

Advertisements in Telegram only appear in public channels with more than 1000 participants. This means no ads appear in regular conversations or group conversations. The ads that are shared as text messages are not personalized and, according to Telegram, there is no tracking whether users click on ads.
