WhatsApp makes ‘iOS-to-Android’ migration tool more widely available
Google and WhatsApp have announced that it is now possible to use the migration tool on more Android devices. Previously, it was only available for Samsung devices.
WhatsApp Migration Tool
WhatsApp’s migration tool is more widely available on Android. This makes it possible to transfer chat conversations from an iOS device such as the iPhone to an Android device. The functionality was already available for Samsung devices in September.
Google has now announced that the migration tool is now available for all Pixel devices. Soon the tool will also be available for all devices that come from the factory with Android 12.
This means that devices that currently run on Android 11 and only receive the update to Android 12 later, cannot use the functionality (immediately). According to reports, Google is working on an option to make the migration function available on devices that will receive an update to Android 12 later.
Transferring your WhatsApp chat history is still ‘old-fashioned’ via the cable. This means that a Lightning to USB-C cable is required. Then a QR code can be scanned with the new Android device, which is displayed on the screen of the iPhone. Conversations and media files are then copied to the Android device.
