Android 12 gives mobile phones the right to unlock the car. But which one?
Google announced in March this year that it wants to get digital driving licenses for Android phones as part of a new alliance and cooperation with the authorities. In May, he also added the so-called Digital Car Key, or mobile replacement of keys for unlocking cars. Logically, Android 12 was declined, and it seems that its sharp release could really bring at least one of these possibilities. Specifically, unlocking a car with a mobile phone is mentioned in several places in the code of Google Play Services in the latest version v21.39.15.
Earlier, the American giant mentioned that both the NFC technology and the increasingly popular UWB are planned to open the car. In the first case, it would be necessary to attach the phone to the lock, in the second variant, it would not even be necessary to pull it out of the pocket. New pieces of code reveal that “fingerprints” of keys or documents will be stored in Google Pay and will require a set screen lock.
It is interesting at this step that since the spring, the functions have hardly been talked about and have not been mentioned in several beta versions of the upcoming system. But now Google is forging something and it may happen that the introduction of this option will correspond to the date of the official release of the new Android and the launch of the Pixel 6 mobile phones.
The new Pixels should be the first phones to receive this privilege. At the same time, it has been said before that some Samsung Galaxy phones will get the same option. However, the introduction will also have regional restrictions and the novelty will probably only apply to some selected cars. It is therefore difficult to estimate now how many combinations of mobile + car + specific country the novelty will cover after the introduction.
In what combination of mobile phone and car would you use this?
