Samsung announces Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3: two new foldable smartphones
Two new foldable smartphones have been added to Samsung’s portfolio. The brand has announced the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3. The two models will also make their debut in the Netherlands. Now we can share the information with you.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Fold 3 announced
Today was the day; Samsung has announced two new smartphones in the Galaxy Z series. In the past few days and weeks we have heard and seen quite a bit about these two new models. Now we can share all the details with you; these are the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3.
Galaxy Z Fold 3
We start in this article with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. This foldable smartphone should be an improvement on the previously released Galaxy Z Fold 2. At 271 grams, it is 11 grams lighter than the current model. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is equipped with a 6.2-inch AMOLED screen and it also delivers an HD+ resolution of 2268 x 832 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. When opened, a 7.6-inch AMOLED screen appears with a resolution of 2208 x 1768 pixels. This screen also delivers a 120Hz refresh rate.
Samsung provides the device with an octa-core processor; Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 chipset. It is striking that Samsung (at least for our region) does not opt for its own Exynos chipset. This is assisted by 12GB of RAM. You can choose from 256GB or 512GB of storage space. There is of course support for the 5G network and there is a 4400 mAh battery. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is equipped with a triple camera; three times a 12 megapixel lens for standard, telephoto lens (with 2x optical zoom) and a wide-angle lens. On the outer screen there is a 10 megapixel front camera. For the first time, we also see an under-display camera at Samsung. This is placed behind the screen when the device is opened. This provides a resolution of 4 megapixels.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 can handle the S Pen, as we saw before with the Galaxy Note series. This S Pen comes in two different variants; an S Pen Fold Edition without Bluetooth, but with Air Command. There is also an S Pen Pro with Bluetooth, LED indicator and it can work with other S Pen capable devices. Other S Pens are not suitable for the screen of the Z Fold 3.
According to Samsung, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is equipped with the strongest aluminum frame they have in the house. The outer screen must also be resistant to external disasters thanks to Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. The smartphone itself is provided with IPX8 certification, which makes it water resistant.
For 1799 euros you have the Galaxy Z Fold 3 in your possession. You can use the support service for a year, whereby damage caused by accidents is reimbursed. When you place a pre-order, you also get a free Cover with S Pen and a charger worth 89 euros. Pre-orders will ship from August 20. The regular release is on August 27.
Galaxy Z Flip 3
The second smartphone that can be folded is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3. When opened, it has a 6.7-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen on the outside has grown from 1.1 inches on the previous model, to 1.9 inches in the ‘3’. This device is also water resistant and is provided with the same Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. In the screen on the outside you have a direct view of notifications, the time, date and other useful information. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip comes with the same Exynos 2100 chipset from Samsung. There is 8GB RAM and 128/256GB storage available.
The camera module of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 has two lenses. A 12MP lens with OIS and a 12MP wide-angle lens. The battery capacity of the device is 3300 mAh. Both smartphones come with Android 11 and could receive updates in the coming years. Samsung previously announced that the devices will receive Android updates for three years and security updates for four years.
For the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 you pay 1049 euros. You also get one year of free use of Samsung Care+. The smartphone will be available from August 27, but if you pre-order it, you will have it on August 20. You can order the products from Samsung and Coolblue.
