Yeat helps you to a table
The Belgian Yeat has now also settled in the Netherlands. The app was created with the idea that luxury restaurants can fill their restaurant last minute, while guests in turn can see if they can still go to a restaurant in the nick of time. We check into the app in this edition of App of the Week.

Nice local
Always nice to see an app that has been made nearby, especially since it is apparently so successful in Belgium that it crosses the border and ends up here in the Netherlands. There are also quite a few Burgundians in the Netherlands and they could use some food inspiration. Does Yeat offer that too? At first glance: not really. It’s not an app that highlights restaurants: it’s just lists of restaurants that you can choose from, based on your location, for example.
And, important detail: these are restaurants that belong to the selection of Michelin or Gault&Millau. More expensive restaurants in general, where you don’t just go on spec. It’s also not the idea that you can find bargains because you come so last minute: it’s purely a way to show: if you consider us, we still have x tables available. A handy concept for people who have something to spend, or have saved because they have something special to celebrate.

Not so lively
As far as we are concerned, however, there is more to it and that is not fully revealed at the moment. On the restaurant page there is a story about the restaurant (and a logo of rather large proportions), but many useful and beautifully displayed photos of the food are missing, for example. You can swipe the logo to the left and a few photos follow, but it is a very list and text-based app. You will also not find any reviews, such as on Tripadvisor or TheFork. It says something about the restaurant, what you can expect in terms of cuisine, for example, how many chef’s hats the restaurant receives from the Gault Millau (or Michelin stars), the opening hours, the location and the contact details.
In addition, it is also a very Belgian app. You can see that in the language (although that is not disturbing), but also in the available restaurants. In the Netherlands there are really a handful of restaurants available and they should therefore offer a last-minute table. What is also strange is that you see which tables were free but for which you are already too late: no idea what the underlying idea is, but it is firstly irrelevant and secondly perhaps even a bit annoying (and negative).
But also: not so local
The design of the app is very stylish with white and a nice, soft font. That is very nice, but ensures that there is little life in the app. And that, in combination with few restaurants in the Netherlands, does not make it quite the Dutch application that we had hoped for. Yeat remains handy, especially for Belgians, but the app feels a bit distant and with a little too little content (and we mainly mean restaurants), we would advise you to give it a while to form a bit more to the Netherlands.
