Sponsored – Netflix releases ‘Oops, I’m Growing!’ see real parenting
Having a child is a major event that changes your life. From sleepless nights and the first words to discussing how you want to raise your child. These are recognizable themes for every parent, including the three couples in the Netflix film Oh I’m Growing!.
There are all kinds of factors that influence how you as a parent approach things and experience them. Such as balance between work and family. Because does your child go to childcare (and if so, how many days), who will work less and who will take care of the food? And what if you suddenly have an important business appointment, can the other person help? In Oops, I’m Growing! is the successful lawyer Anne (Sallie Harmsen) together with Barry (Soy Kroon) and she returns to work in good spirits after her maternity leave. She soon learns that combining a career and a small one comes with more challenges than she sometimes likes.

Unscrewed
In addition to finding a good balance between work and family, life skills are also a hot topic when a baby arrives. Maybe before you have a child you know who you are, what you find important and you have a clear picture of what you want to pass on to your little one. This can become unsettled after childbirth. Broken nights because of cramps, breastfeeding that doesn’t want to work and the interference – no matter how well intentioned – from your environment. Once the little one is here, things sometimes turn out differently. And that can be difficult. Especially when there is a cultural aspect involved. Ilse (Yolanthe Cabau) and her Moroccan husband Sabri (Iliass Ojja) also run into this. They want to give their child both cultures, but have never discussed what that looks like in practice. Finding each other after birth is not so easy. And when Sabri’s mom temporarily moves in to help out, the culture clash gets even worse.
Golden tip
For many young parents, parenting is an adventure full of ups and downs. And then it can be nice to find support and advice from like-minded people. They probably experience the same problems, such as not wanting to eat or refusing to poop on the toilet, or perhaps have the golden tip for that. A kind of association for mothers can also offer a solution. It is true that both Anne and Ilse in the film Oei, ik Groei! choose. Both join the Mama for Mama’s club, founded by Kim (Katja Schuurman) who is married to Roos (Sarah Chronis). They have – with the help of good friend Kaj (Louis Talpe) – two children. The latter, despite the fact that he would only be the sperm donor, still wants to be involved in the upbringing. This entails both hilarious and painful situations.
As a parent you face impossible situations, both at work and at home. Fortunately, you also share nice, intimate moments with each other and the little one. The movie Oops, I’m Growing! shows that parenting can be a true rollercoaster and that you are far from alone struggling or insecure!
The movie Oops, I’m Growing! will be available on Netflix from June 9.
