These cool features are coming to iOS 17 (and here’s when)

It’s still a little while before Apple kicks off WWDC 2023, but June 5 (around 7:00 PM) is finally here. Then we should also be able to get a first impression of iOS 17.

1. New lock screen

One of the coolest new features can be found with the lock screen. According to Gurman, Apple will introduce a new kind of lock screen that turns your iPhone into a kind of “screen for your smart home.”

When you’re not using the iPhone and place it horizontally, the smartphone shows the calendar, your appointments, weather data, notifications, and more. If you have connected the iPhone to a MagSafe charger, a kind of smart hub will appear. A bit similar to what you also see with devices such as the Google Nest Hub. In this way, Apple wants to give the iPhone more applications if you are not actively using it.

2. App Updates (and Multiple Feature Enhancements)

According to Gurman, Apple plans to update several apps. These include Apple Wallet and Find My. In addition, well-known functions such as SharePlay and AirPlay can also expect a number of improvements.

According to Gurman, the Wallet app in particular will receive a few ‘significant adjustments’, but unfortunately the Apple expert did not provide any further explanation about this. Gurman also did not provide any additional information about the exact improvements in the Find My app. So if you want to know more about these features in iOS 17, you’ll have to wait a little longer until WWDC 2023 starts.

3. Apple is coming with a diary app (sort of)

There have been rumors for some time that Apple is working on a kind of journal app. Here you can enter your activities or personal thoughts every day. According to Gurman, the app is now planned for iOS 17.

Several rumors say that the app will also get an extra feature that analyzes what you do and how you feel about it. This would then be in conjunction with a new feature Apple has planned for iOS 17 that monitors your mood.

But when will iOS 17 actually appear? The update will be announced on June 5 and can then be installed in September on all iPhones that support the new version of iOS.
