PaLM 2: What can Google’s new artificial intelligence do?
For example, PaLM 2 includes more than 100 languages. In addition, the AI can now better understand, generate and translate texts including idioms, poems and riddles in different languages.
In addition, the model was trained with a large number of publicly available source code datasets. It now also masters common programming languages such as Python and JavaScript.
The development team also dealt with logical reasoning. That is, the PaLM 2 dataset includes academic papers, websites, and mathematical expressions. This enables the AI to act with logic, common sense and mathematics.
New AI integrated into Google products
At the I/O, Google presented a total of 25 new products and functions that PaLM 2 supports. Above all, the chatbot Google Bard is to be expanded to new languages.
In addition, the new language model is the basis for a programming update the company. In the future, the AI will also support Google’s Workspace functions such as Gmail and Google Docs.
The language model should also be able to Pictures to edit. For example, it can complete the background of a shot to make it look more pleasing.
Google AI PaLM 2: Successor Gemini already being planned
As Google announced, the successor to PaLM 2 is already in development. The AI, christened “Gemini”, is therefore multimodal from the ground up and highly efficient in the integration of tools and APIs. It should enable functions such as memory and planning for the first time.
PaLM 2 has been available in preview for a small group of developers since March 2023. You can now register to use the model.
Enterprise customers can also use the model in Vertex AI with data protection, security and governance. However, it remains to be seen whether the new AI can actually keep Google’s promises.
