Ford continues to support CarPlay

Do you regularly use CarPlay in your car and do you have a Ford car? Then there is good news, because Ford has indicated that it will continue to support CarPlay for the time being. With this, the company is responding to General Motors’ decision to no longer support CarPlay in new cars. Instead, General Motors is teaming up with Google to create a replacement for CarPlay.

General Motors is behind car brands such as Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac. New cars from these brands will soon only work with Google. Ford has now said in a statement that the company has absolutely no plans to ban Apple’s CarPlay. Ford is focusing on supporting CarPlay, in order to compete with brands that no longer have CarPlay.

Tesla still doesn’t support CarPlay

One of these brands without CarPlay support is Tesla. Elon Musk’s company still hasn’t partnered with Apple’s car system, and it doesn’t look like that will change any time soon. Musk has never expressed interest in CarPlay and is sticking with Tesla’s own operating system for now.

That choice is not surprising, because in principle Tesla’s operating system offers all the functions that CarPlay also has. As a result, there is no reason for Musk to switch to the operating system of a major competitor such as Apple. Of course, that does not alter the fact that CarPlay works just a little better, especially if you have an iPhone. For the time being, Tesla users will therefore have to do without CarPlay.

CarPlay 2.0 is coming

Ford will continue to support CarPlay for the time being. And that’s good news, because Apple has announced that a new version of CarPlay is coming. The new generation is a major expansion of the first version of CarPlay and will be released this year. In this new version, CarPlay must be able to take over all screens in your car and the software of the operating system can be personalized much better.
