Stiftung Warentest reveals a power-saving trick for baking and cooking
Christmas is about family and food. Stiftung Warentest gives some tips on how to easily save electricity at Christmas dinner, which we don’t want to withhold from you.
Save electricity with the right tools
As beautiful as the Christmas season is, you usually spend far too long in the kitchen preparing Christmas dinner. This not only costs time, it can also significantly increase power consumption. the Stiftung Warentest (Edition 11/2022) gives tips on how you can easily save electricity and money with small changes and the appropriate cooking utensils.
Already the Choosing the right cooking pots influences the energy consumption: Since the heat from the hob can be optimally conducted to the pot, it is important that it has exactly the same circumference as the hob. So no heat is lost. Also check the quality of your pots: If they already have a few dents, too much heat can be lost as a result. Just in time for Black Friday you can get an 11-piece cooking set with induction-compatible Pots and pans for only 92 euros (view at Amazon) (would also make a practical Christmas present).
Cooking: less energy, more taste
The right lid also counteracts heat loss. In addition, you can easily steam vegetables with a sieve insert and some water or vegetable stock in the pot instead of cooking with lots of water. The advantage: the nutrients are retained.
The same applies to the holiday roast: Instead of sticking this one in the oven for hours, it gets in one too roaster even on the hob. Since the temperatures are lower and roasters have a lid, you use less energy. You are currently getting it GSW “Gourmet Granit” roaster for 40 euros instead of 87 euros (see Otto). It is practical that it has a transparent lid. So you can always keep an eye on your food without lifting the lid. The heat thus remains in the roaster.
However, you can Bake cookies difficult to do without an oven: Here it makes sense to use several sheets to work. If your oven has a convection function, the heat can be distributed well in the oven and reaches your trays evenly. If you ever need an update in the kitchen, the Stiftung Warentest recommends (Edition 08/2019) the Bosch HBG632TS1 (see at Amazon).
