World Cup opening game Qatar vs. Ecuador – who is broadcasting when on stream & TV?
The tournament was discussed for many months and years, today the controversial World Cup tournament begins. The game between the hosts Qatar and Ecuador is the opening game of the 2022 World Cup this Sunday, November 20th, 2022. You can follow all live stream and TV broadcasts of the games, most of which are free, legal and without registration.
On the first day of the tournament, ZDF will show the game between Qatar and Ecuador in live stream and TV. You can easily switch on to the public free TV station on television. Without a TV connection or on the go, there is the World Cup broadcast via the ZDF app or directly in the browser via live stream on the screen of smartphones, tablets, iPhones, iPads, many smart TVs and more. The preliminary reports on the first World Cup game start on Sunday, November 20th at 3:30 p.m. Kick-off for the opening game is at 5:00 p.m.
In addition to ZDF, ARD will show numerous games on free TV. Also the program of ARD can you can see for free in the live stream. The live streams from ARD and ZDF are also part of the free options from streaming services such as Zattoo or Waipu.TV. With Fire TV you can switch on the live TV program without an additional app. 16 games can only be received exclusively via the Magenta TV payment platform.

Who will broadcast which game in the knockout phase will be decided once the games are set. Should Germany take part in the game for third place, the “small” final will be broadcast by ZDF. Otherwise, Magenta TV shows the game exclusively. The finale on December 18 can be seen on ARD.
World Cup 2022: when does Germany play and who is broadcasting?
In total, ARD and ZDF show 48 of the 64 World Cup broadcasts. All games of the German national team will definitely be available free of charge in the live stream and free TV on ARD and ZDF. This is how the public broadcasters split the transmissions of the DFB team in the preliminary round among themselves:
- At ARD Christina Graf, Florian Naß, Gerd Gottlob and Tom Bartels can be heard on the commentary. Alexander Bommes and Julia Scharf lead through the football days in the “First”. Esther Sedlaczek will be heard in the stadium.
- ZDF lets Oliver Schmidt, Martin Schneider, Claudia Neumann and Béla Réthy to the microphone. For the commentator legend Réthy it will be the last World Cup tournament where he will be heard during the live broadcast. Sandro Wagner will be heard as co-commentator. Jochen Breyer and Katrin Müler-Hohenstein moderate the ZDF broadcasts.
- Telekom backs them Magenta TV Games on Wolff Fuss, Marco Hagemann, Jonas Friedrich, Jan Platte, Christina Rann, Christian Straßburger, Alexander Klich and Benni Zander as commentators.
- The legendary presenter Johannes B. Kerner works together with the former DFB international Michael Ballack as presenter. The ARD team of experts consists of Almuth Schult, Thomas Hitzlsperger and Sami Khedira as well as Thomas Broich, ZDF on Christoph Kramer and Per Mertesacker and the women’s national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg.
