Dynamic Island gets even more striking in iOS 16.1
Bad news for critics of the Dynamic Island: the pill-shaped camera hole of the iPhone 14 Pro becomes even more noticeable in iOS 16.1 than before. This is what’s going on.
Read on after the ad.
iPhone 14 Pro: Dynamic Island as a big feature
The Dynamic Island is one of the most important new features of the iPhone 14 Pro (Max). This new camera hole at the top of the screen replaces the old notch, and dynamically resizes. For example, if you play music or run a timer, it will stick to the Dynamic Island, as it were.
Now many designers were very enthusiastic about the idea when it was announced, but there are also the necessary critics. Because isn’t the Dynamic Island just more prominent than the old notch, which was already so much criticized? And can that camera hole really not get any smaller?
Dynamic Island in iOS 16.1 beta 4
If you are one of those critics, then unfortunately there is bad news: in the fourth beta of iOS 16.1, Apple makes the Dynamic Island even more visible. Previously, with a dark background, such as the built-in Astronomy wallpaper, you could largely hide the Dynamic Island. But in iOS 16.1, a gray border is added to the Dynamic Island with a dark background, so that you can still see it.
This only happens if the island is actively used by iOS, but this also includes the lock screen, for example, where a small lock is placed next to the island. You will soon no longer be able to ignore the Dynamic Island – because Apple has not added a setting to turn off the edge.
Not yet final
Now is not the time to panic: it is only a beta version. That means Apple can still remove the gray border, or make it optional, before iOS 16.1 is actually released. For the critics: we keep our fingers crossed.
