Instagram is testing post sharing

Instagram is working on a repost function that is already being tested by competitor TikTok. Sharing posts is already in the test phase.

Should this function actually find its way into Instagram, third-party apps such as Repost for Instagram or Regram would have had their day. We are talking about the function that allows sharing of posts.

Because so far this has only been possible in the stories or in direct messages. So far, users have not been able to share other people’s posts in their own feed.

But exactly this function is currently in the test phase on Instagram, like the social network opposite to TechCrunch approved. First he had Social media expert Matt Navarra the new feature discovered.

Instagram is testing a repost feature

The test phase for the repost function on Instagram has not yet started. However, it should soon be available for selected users, like the company opposite TechCrunch approved.

“We’re exploring the possibility of sharing posts in Feed – similar to sharing in Stories,” said a meta spokesperson.

We plan to test this with a small number of people soon.

The screenshot Navarra posted shows the repost feature on Instagram boss Adam Mosseri’s profile. Here it appears as a new tab in the profile next to the existing ones for posts or reels. It is likely that all shared posts can then be found via this tab.

Instagram has been working on the feature for a while

The app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi discovered the function on Instagram back in May.

According to his discoveries, the repost feature could appear among the already existing content sharing options.

It could also be that users can add something to the shared posts – similar to a Twitter retweet.

Why is Instagram testing the repost feature?

With the repost function, Instagram wants to give its users the opportunity to share the content they like, according to the meta spokesman.

But that’s not the only reason. Instagram is also testing the feature “so that the original creators are recognized for their work.”

What does competitor TikTok have to do with this test?

For years, third-party apps have been able to repost—or rather, regram—posts on Instagram. And other platforms such as Facebook or Twitter also offer the option of sharing content from others.

However, Instagram competitor TikTok is now also working on a sharing function. The video platform is testing its Rebost button, which allows users to share posts from others with their own followers.
