Dream of the camera king has burst
With the 12S Ultra, Xiaomi has introduced a new high-end smartphone with a massive camera. It was firmly expected that the smartphone would become the new camera king with the help of Leica. But it can’t even beat its predecessor when it comes to DxOMark.
Xiaomi 12S Ultra lands behind its predecessor
When the Xiaomi 12S Ultra was presented, we were slightly surprised why the Chinese company did not submit the smartphone to DxOMark for the camera test in advance in order to get a high score there. The camera test for the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is now available and is somewhat disappointing. Yes, the smartphone has a very good camera, but not the best. at DxOMark lands the 12S Ultra “only” in fifth place with 138 points. Considering how much money and work Xiaomi and Leica put into the development, that’s a bit of a disappointment.
Xiaomi beats the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max with the 12S Ultra, but not other manufacturers. The Honor Magic 3 Ultimate remains in first place with 146 points. This is followed by the Huawei P50 Pro with 144 points in second place. Third place with 143 points goes to the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra and thus the predecessor of the 12S Ultra – and that without the help of Leica and the huge sensor. And with the Huawei Mate 40 Pro Plus, with 139 points, a smartphone pushed ahead of Xiaomi.
What the Xiaomi 12S Ultra can do:
Xiaomi 12S Ultra is a good camera smartphone
Even if the Xiaomi 12S Ultra with a Leica camera hasn’t become the hoped-for camera king, it’s still an excellent camera smartphone. According to DxOMark, Xiaomi only has to work on a few details, such as the consistency of the photos. Even when photos were taken in identical conditions, the result was not always the same. So you can’t always rely on the camera. Let’s hope that the Xiaomi 13 Ultra does better. This smartphone should then also find its way to us.
