7x beautiful moors for walking

Westerheide & Bussumerheide – Het Gooi

During this walk you alternately stroll through heaths and woods. The Westerheide is a beautiful area between Laren, Hilversum and Bussum where you can enjoy nature in peace. Also nice for children, because with a distance of 9 kilometers you can be back in the parking lot in about two hours. On the way you also cross the Bussumer Heide. When you return, you can enjoy a treat at restaurant La Place, where you can easily park your car.

Sallandse Heuvelrug – Overijssel

A nice walk for children: on the way you will pass the viewpoint Holterberg. From there you have a wide view over Twente and in clear weather you can also see Rijssen, Delden and Hengelo. On the way you walk through the woods and over the Holterheide, which is part of the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park. The walk is also not too long: 4 kilometers.

Brunssummerheide – Limburg

Do you live in the south of the country, or are you going to Limburg for a weekend, then it is wonderful to walk on the Brunsummerheide. According to the foresters of Natuurmonumenten, you will not find such vast heaths anywhere else. You walk between old coniferous forests, deciduous forests and over open sandy plains. Who knows, you might spot different birds along the way or you might meet a shepherd with his flock. In the spring, Lambs Days are organized for young visitors in the sheepfold.

Dwingelderveld – Drenthe

If you prefer to travel with the pram, you can opt for a family path. For example in the Dwingelderveld National Park in Drenthe. The 2.5 km route is on a paved path and takes you through the forest, past the sheepfold and over the heath. With a bit of luck, you can also hear the trumpeting call of a nesting crane in the distance.

Empese and Tondense Heide – Gelderland

The ideal distance for a walk with children: 5 kilometers. During this tour, near Zutphen, you walk through the Empese and Tondense Heide and you will encounter special plants and flowers. The boardwalk has been specially constructed and runs straight through the grasslands. Make sure you put on a pair of waterproof boots, otherwise you will return to your car with wet feet.

Buurserzand – Overijssel

In this beautiful nature reserve, open moors, grasslands and groves alternate. Spot various plants, woodpeckers, old oak groves and frogs during the 5-kilometer walk. And with a bit of luck you can also see a deer in the distance.

Hoog Buurlo – Gelderland

This nature reserve is more than 54 km2 in size. You will find beautiful beech avenues, oak and beech forests, fields, and – perhaps the best thing about the area – a herd of Veluwe heath sheep.
