6 New Features (And Here’s What You Can Do With It)
The voice messages in WhatsApp are getting a major update and 6 new functions are being added. iPhoned tells you what these new features are.

WhatsApp: 6 new voice messaging features
Since 2013, it has been possible to send voice messages with WhatsApp. According to the app maker, 7 billion voice messages are now sent per day.
To send a voice message on your iPhone, tap the microphone to the right of the text box in an open conversation. Keep your finger on the microphone and record your message. The message is then sent immediately when you take your finger off the microphone.
This all works fine, but you have very few options. The makers of WhatsApp must have thought that too, because with the update you get six new functions for voice messages. Which functions are those exactly? We briefly list them for you.
- Play outside of chat: After the update it is possible to listen to a voice message in the background. So you no longer need to have WhatsApp open;
- Pause and resume voice message recording: you now have the option to pause and resume recording a voice message;
- Visual display with sound wave: you will now see a visual representation of your voice message in WhatsApp;
- Listen to draft recording: listen to your voice messages before sending them;
- Remember playback point: you can now pause voice messages and continue listening later;
- Fast playback of forwarded messages: Play voice messages 1.5 or 2 times faster.
WhatsApp update: this is how you should update the app
Before you can use the six new voice messaging features in WhatsApp, you need to update the app. This is often done automatically, but you can also manually check whether the update is ready for you. You do this in the following way.
- Tap the App Store;
- Tap your profile picture and swipe the screen down until a rotating icon appears at the top;
- Scroll down and tap Update All.
Isn’t there an update ready yet? Unfortunately… Sometimes you have to be patient for a few days, because it may take a while before you can download the update of WhatsApp with the new voice messaging features.
