Microsoft has just presented the successor to Windows 10 with Windows 11. A lot of innovations were revealed and some of them particularly inspire me. But there is still a big question mark.

Windows 11: These six innovations particularly inspire me

As expected, Microsoft officially presented Windows 11, the successor to Windows 10, today. The first preliminary version will be released to the testers in the next week, but not all of the innovations shown here will be included there. Over time, however, these will be integrated.

  1. Taskbar and start menu

Admittedly, I had to address them first new taskbar and the new start menu Get used to it, but now I am convinced that you can work more productively with it. You can reach the documents and programs you need more quickly, you can use the search directly and the alignment in the middle is also not wrong. Works with macOS too.

  2. design
Windows 11 has been completely redesigned visually. It looks much more uniform, it has now got round corners and Microsoft generally touched everythingto make it look more beautiful and seamless. You can adjust everything according to your needs. The operating system should be based on the user.
  3. Updates
With Windows 11, Microsoft is addressing one of the biggest criticisms of the operating system: Updates! In Windows 11 updates are 40 percent smaller, can be downloaded and installed more quickly, do not consume as much storage space and also install themselves in the background.
  4. Windows widgets

Microsoft is bringing back the widgets with Windows 11. Even more so than under Windows Vista and this time actually useful. Microsoft combines namely practical widgets and news in one areathat can be arranged individually and, if necessary, even used in full screen. Google has to dress really warm there. Microsoft News will be strong competition for Google Discover under Windows 11 in combination with the widgets.

  5. productivity

The many changes that increase productivity have succeeded really well. With “Snap layouts“Let the programs be arranged individually in windows on the monitor. “Snap Group“Then ensures that you can continue working where you left off. Windows 11 remembers the last status and structure on the desktop and brings it back directly. No more opening and arranging all programs manually when you start the working day. Hallelujah! And the best? Windows 11 can remember the settings on external monitors. If you work on a laptop and unplug it, when you reconnect everything is restored to the way it was previously set. Simply brilliant and long overdue.

  6. Android apps

A really big step from Microsoft. Android apps run natively under Windows 11. But there is a small catch. The Google Play Store will not be integrated, as I would have liked, but the App Store from Amazon. But I don’t want to jump to conclusions, because if developers notice that they can reach millions of new users under Windows 11, the Amazon App Store could really take off. So I’m in good spirits.

Otherwise Microsoft still has Optimizations for the operation shown. But I’m not a big fan of gestures anyway. Microsoft Teams is now an integral partafter Skype was kicked out. There are Innovations for gaming and the new Windows Storethat should be safer, more beautiful and faster. You should also find all the apps there that you need. Let’s wait and see if this promise really comes true. Basically, Microsoft would like to open up more with Windows 11 and position itself for the future. The upgrade for Windows 10 users is also free of charge. Windows 11 is expected to appear at the end of 2021.

Windows 11: One Big Question Remains

Microsoft has always said that Windows 10 will actually be the last version of Windows. Wouldn’t it have been possible to simply integrate the many innovations into Windows 10 and advance the operating system in this way? I have no problem with the fact that there is now a Windows 11 after all, but Microsoft has changed its strategy with it. Is that why there will soon be Windows 12, 13, 14 and so on? Are we falling back into old patterns? The next few years will tell.
