4 reasons why we look forward to the skateboard adventure
At the end of the year, OlliOlli World will be a replenishment for all skateboard enthusiasts. We have already been able to visit the colorful world of Radlandia and reveal four reasons why we are looking forward to the game from Roll7.

1. Skateboarding is cool again
In the early 2000s, there was nothing cooler than skateboarding. My whole circle of friends played Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater with enthusiasm and scratched their knees sore on the cheap 50-euro board from the catalog.
The interests changed after a while and Tony finally disappeared from hard drives. The dream of skating still slumbered and was finally awakened from its slumber again in the last few years.
If you open the window here in Berlin, you will regularly hear the familiar hum over the asphalt. In the meantime, I was also able to afford a high-quality, new board and skateboarding is a hit again on the screens. Regardless of whether it’s the successful Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, the Skater XL simulations, the year-long yearning for Skate 4 or the two OlliOlli games from roll7, which will be continued this year with OlliOlli World.
2. Years of fine-tuning
The Roll7 studio has not just been at OlliOlli World since yesterday, but was able to make a name for itself with the first OlliOlli in 2014. OlliOlli2 followed in 2015: Welcome to Olliwood, which was just as positively received as its predecessor.
While the first two parts were primarily optimized for accessibility and were played on Android devices and the PlayStation Vita, among other things, the ambitions for OlliOlli World are significantly greater. The latest part appears for PC and consoles and offers a brand new graphic style instead of pixel optics.
3. Skating with charm and heart
The new graphic style gives the entire game a wonderfully inviting atmosphere. The residents of Radlandia are not only obsessed with skateboarding, but are also wonderfully wacky and diverse. The lo-fi electronic soundtrack also goes wonderfully with the picturesque and sunny no-world.
So if you, like me, already liked cartoons like Steven Universe, you will immediately feel at home in Radlandia. You can get your own impression of it in the current trailer:
4. Perfect for beginners and professionals
OlliOlli World is at its core a rhythm game that is all about being in the right Flow get. Just like in real skating, the correct timing becomes second nature after a few tries and falls, so that after a while, the focus is primarily on driving fun.
While the first two parts were still known for their tricky level of difficulty, OlliOlli World takes a more inclusive route. Thanks to checkpoints and variable goals, all levels are also feasible for beginners. However, if you want to unlock all goals and crack the high score, you can’t avoid a lot of practice and dozens of repetitions. After all, fans of the predecessors shouldn’t feel under-challenged.
I was able to see for myself during the audition that this approach works well. Although I managed to complete all levels of the demo almost on the first try, a lot of time passed in order to also complete all secondary goals, such as completing a route completely without a checkpoint. But as soon as it works after countless attempts, the euphoria and joy are even greater. Just like in real skateboarding.
OlliOlli World will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X / S, PlaySation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC at the end of 2021.
