Spotify Greenroom is officially available today for iOS and Android. So it’s high time to see what the app has to offer. We do this by answering the x most important questions about it.

1. What is Spotify Greenroom?

If you know Clubhouse, you know Spotify Greenroom. The app allows users to have live conversations on a variety of topics. From sports to culture and of course music.

Greenroom is the result of an acquisition that Spotify made in March. Then the company bought the Locker Room app, an app with a similar function that was only about sports. Spotify has now given the app a new (green) look and has considerably expanded the topics that can be discussed.

2. How does the app work?

Just like in Clubhouse, users can create ‘rooms’ and start talking to each other in them. You can invite others to join your conversation and record a conversation directly from Greenroom. Some people are talking and you can raise your hand if you’re in the audience to say something too.

You can then easily export this recording as a podcast. That makes it potentially an interesting app for people who want to try recording a podcast.

Spotify has announced that money will be made available to users with popular channels, although details are still limited. The company will also invite ‘popular creators’ to use Greenroom.

3. Where can I register?

Spotify Greenroom is free to download and use. You can log in with your Spotify account, although this is not mandatory. While creating your account, you can indicate your interests, from music genres to sports teams.

4. Are Spotify and Greenroom going to work together?

For the time being, Greenroom will remain its own service, but Spotify does not rule out the possibility that certain elements may overlap with the music service. A spokesperson says The Verge know that “some core features will eventually come to Spotify.” So you can rest assured that everything that happens in Greenroom is closely monitored.
