iPhone Tips: 3 Hidden Features in iOS 16

iOS 16 is adding more and more functions, for which you previously needed a separate app. For example, it is now possible to detect and merge duplicate photos. But there’s more news to be found in Apple’s operating system for the iPhone. Did you know, for example, that you can also automatically send an email at a later time? You can read that and more in this week’s iPhone tips!

1. Merge Duplicate Photos

When you take a lot of photos, there are always duplicate photos (or shots that are very similar). It is almost impossible to browse through all your photos yourself and to find duplicate photos. That’s why there were always special apps in the App Store that help you with that.

Now you don’t need it anymore, because iOS 16 has a function built-in to find and merge duplicate photos. In this week’s iPhone tips, we’ll show you how.

Find and Merge Duplicate Photos in iOS 16 on iPhone

  1. Open the ‘Photos’ app and tap ‘Albums’ at the bottom;
  2. Scroll down and choose ‘Duplicate parts’;
  3. Scroll through the found photos and tap Combine on the photos you want to merge.

iOS 16 will list all photos. So you don’t just get to see photos that are exactly the same. There are also photos that are very similar. That’s why it’s smart to manually go through all the duplicate photos found, to check whether you really want to merge them.

2. Send email later

When you’ve written an email, you sometimes don’t want to send it right away. Think, for example, of an invitation that you only want to share after a certain date. But of course you don’t want to forget to send the email. Then iOS 16 has the solution for you.

When you have typed an email in the Mail app, you normally tap the arrow in the blue ball to send the email. When you hold down this button with your finger, you get more options. Tap Send Later…, choose the date, time, then tap Done.

The email will then be sent from your device on which you have configured. You must make sure that your device has an online connection at the set time to send the email.

3. Tips to Share Wi-Fi Password (Between iPhone and Android)

When you have friends over, they naturally want to know your Wi-Fi password. You can easily share the password between iPhones, but when someone has an Android device it becomes more difficult. Especially if you have a hard to remember WiFi password, because then you have to look it up first.

In iOS 16 is now an easier way. You can recover and copy WiFi passwords. You can then pass the password on to your friends. You do that in the following way.

  • Go to ‘Settings > Wi-Fi’;
  • Tap the name of the wireless connection you are connected to;
  • Tap ‘Password’ and sign in with Face ID or Touch ID;
  • Copy the password and pass it on.
